Ask a questionAn on-licence covers premises where alcohol is sold or supplied for consumption on site, such as a restaurant, bar or hotel. An off-licence covers premises where alcohol is sold for consumption elsewhere, such as a bottle store, supermarket or online seller.
Well before the expiry date. Renewals involve reviewing current conditions, documentation and operating factors, and the process can involve reporting agencies, so starting several months ahead avoids trading pressure near expiry.
Not automatically. Purchasing a licensed business does not transfer the existing licence to the purchaser. Depending on the circumstances a temporary authority may be relevant while a new licence application is progressed.
No. The Licence Controller Qualification is a training qualification delivered by recognised providers. A manager’s certificate is applied for separately through the relevant council and District Licensing Committee. We explain the pathway and help organise the application material.
The fee framework uses factors such as licence and premises type, permitted trading hours and relevant enforcement history to produce a rating that informs the applicable fee band. Our calculator gives an indicative figure only.
